Eight
ways your website can put readers in touch with authors
Today,
success is all about building relationships with your customers. Keep
in touch with readers between books with your website and reap the rewards
with bigger sales of the next book!
1. Give
each author a free page or site
In it, readers should find biographical information and descriptions
of other books the author has written. Go a step further, and encourage
all of your authors to develop a full-featured website packed with information
on their area of specialty. Then, provide readers with a link to that
site.
2.
Include on-line newsletters with timely updates
If you're covering a fast-moving field, give readers an extra incentive
to buy your book! Create an on-line newsletter for book buyers only.
Print the password in the book. Or ask a few easy questions only customers
could answer.
3.
Create a Q&A page
Gather common questions about each book into a Q&A section, with
answers written by the author.
4.
Provide a reading list
Most of your authors have written other articles, books, speeches, or
essays. Tell readers where to find them...even if you didn't publish
them. They'll appreciate the help and it will help cement their relationship
with the author. (And that will mean more sales for the next book!)
5.
Interview your authors regularly
This is a great way to give readers more insight into your author and
the subject matter. You can feature interviews on the author's individual
page, or consider creating an on-line magazine with news and interviews
about all your authors.
6.
Introduce readers to other authors they might like
Why not make it easy for readers to find other authors covering their
subject area or writing in the same genre? Include a "if you liked this,
you'll love..." section with links to excerpts from other author's books.
7.
Include excerpts from the books you publish
Give them a taste of what they're missing!
8.
Offer discounts for on-line orders
You often save be selling direct...why not share the savings with your
customer? It's a great way to encourage immediate sales.
